On Sunday 26 June we held a most successful Summer Party. The sun shone and the garden was a delight. The food was, as usual, delicious and we were entertained by players of the Tower Theatre Company.

The Tower Theatre Company invites all Canonbury Society members to a special evening on Tuesday 20 July.

AN EXCLUSIVE INVITATION FROM THE TOWER THEATRE COMPANY TO CANONBURY SOCIETY MEMBERS

The Tower Theatre Company is inviting members of the Canonbury Society to travel back four centuries to the very roots of Shakespeare’s universal legacy at the site of its new theatre in Shoreditch.  A final excavation of the site of ‘The Theatre’-- where Shakespeare honed his skills-- is underway before work begins on the Tower’s new home. This is the very last opportunity to stand where the groundlings stood for the premiere of Romeo and Juliet...to experience the archaeological site where modern theatre was born.

Tuesday 20 July 2010 has been reserved for members of The Canonbury Society.

6.15 p.m. for 6.30 p.m.

1-3 New Inn Broadway, London EC2A 3PR

Tickets £30 include:

Viewing of a special exhibition and video starring Sir Ian McKellen and Michael Maloney

An on-site visit to the excavation with an archaeologist involved in the dig

A  performance by a Shakespearian actor on the very site where the bard once stood.

A sparkling reception with bubbles and nibbles

All proceeds will benefit the Tower Theatre’s fundraising appeal for its new theatre.
